Mike was impressed by the new H145 helicopter and it's potential to save more lives

Mike Wood, MP for Dudley South, was welcomed to RAF Cosford Airbase last Friday morning to meet members of the Midlands Air Ambulance crew.

Mike had an extended tour of the charity’s new state-of-the-art H145 helicopter and was even able to see the crew return from a cardiac arrest call-out.

In 2016, Mike supported the service's successful Treasury bid for a £1m banking fine, which enabled them to upgrade the fleet of helicopters with the purchase of this new aircraft.

Mike Wood said, “The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity do some fantastic work all year round to help people in their moment of need.

“It was an honour to help secure the funding bid for the new H145 helicopter and I believe it was dispatched three times last year to assist people in Dudley South.

“Keep up the brilliant work!”

Hanna Sebright, Chief Executive for Midlands Air Ambulance Charity, said: “Everything we believe in and everything we do challenges our status quo so that we continue to make a difference to patients’ lives. We made the strategic decision to invest in the larger, £7 million, H145 helicopter to further develop our clinical and operational service by increasing our flying range and the capacity of the aircraft cabin, which allows a close family member to accompany our patients in their hour of need. This in turn enables us to continue to develop Midlands Air Ambulance.”

“We were able to purchase our new airframe because of the continued loyal support from our donors, volunteers and supporters across the communities we serve, as well as a £1 million grant from the Government banking fines and with amazing support from many of the MPs who serve our region, including Mike Wood.”
